Casa San Pablo - with the Alcantara home in the background
We were supposed to check out Chef Poblador’s Kusina Salud but learned days before that the place had closed. We switched plans to lunch at Casa San Pablo in San Pablo, Laguna. I thought the drive was easy – traffic was light and it took us an hour and half to reach our destination from SLEX. The place, owned by Boots and Ana Alcantara, was sprawling. Lunch, however, was a tad disappointing due to the lack of variety. Food was served buffet-style, with nilagang baka, grilled tilapia, ensaladang talong and lechon kawali on the table, and leche flan and halayang ube for dessert. For the price, P320 per person, I suppose I can’t complain but, having made the drive from Manila, I wouldn’t have minded paying a premium for a wider selection. But we had a relaxing afternoon, drinking coffee, playing Scrabble and checking out antiques at nearby Sulyap Cafe.
Sulyap Cafe
The drive back to Manila was fast. We went straight to World Music Room for dinner and videoke with Ate Pam, which lasted till 3 a.m.
